Industrial HMI development for weighing systems

This project was part of a consulting engagement between ECK and Weightech, covering not only product development but also structuring and training the technical team responsible for the company’s projects.
One of the projects from that period was PesoNET, designed as a platform to integrate different weighing devices into a single network, enabling communication between equipment, supervisory systems and industrial applications.
From innovation to industrial product
The project was submitted to FINEP, Brazil’s federal innovation funding agency, under its zero-interest program and received funding of R$ 721,649.48 in 2006, according to FINEP’s own public records.
Getting the project approved took far more than developing hardware and software. It required structuring the technical proposal, defining stages, costs, objectives and deliverables, preparing extensive documentation and later tracking the use of funds and reporting on them.
Industrial HMI for weighing
One of the first industrial HMIs developed for the platform came out of this project.
The solution combined weighing, local processing, an operator interface, Ethernet and communication with different devices and industrial protocols, allowing it to be used within automation architectures and weighing networks.
The hardware used the Zilog Rabbit platform, widely used at the time in embedded applications with Ethernet connectivity.
Engineering and knowledge transfer
Besides development, ECK guided and trained Weightech’s engineering team, transferring knowledge and following the product’s technical evolution.
The system went through the evaluation processes that apply to weighing equipment, and the work done in that period contributed to a product line that still exists today.
More than developing a board or an HMI, this project covered the entire innovation cycle: concept, funding, engineering, team training, documentation, validation and a commercial product.
This kind of work sums up what ECK does: turning a technology need into a real industrial product. See other electronic engineering projects developed by ECK.
